Science .... Fiction?

Forget the standard beach vacation this summer - and fire up the 4WD to Death Valley National Park. It wont be an easy trip but what you find is a geographical phenomenon most people have never heard of: Racetrack Playa or sometimes known as 'Sailing Stones'.

In the middle of the playa, which is a dry lake bed, are rocks weighing several hundred pounds that have created pathways that are hundreds of feet long. But here’s the deal – no one knows how they move. They have never been filmed or seen in motion and there are no footprints behind them- just long trails. The confusion not only lies in the depth and length of track but also the inconsistency at which they move. Several hundred pound rocks right next to each other take completely navigation different paths and some don't move at all.

Some zig zag some loop some are just straight lines but all in all it continues to be a mystery.

Here are some additional stats:
• Stones only move once every two or three years and most tracks last for three or four years.
• The playa itself (dry, lake bed) is 2.5 miles long and 1.25 miles wide
• Almost perfectly flat surface and almost always dry (rainfall only a couple of inches a year)

Some say its underground magnetics, some say aliens, many think winds. But after years of intrigue and scientific research- everyone has come out with one conclusion - it doesn't make sense.

Road trip?

Vintage Tech.

This NYC scene was so awesome it deserves its own post. While walking through Union Square today, amidst a number of vendors obnoxiously trying to catch everyone's attention, I couldn't help but admire the amazingness of one said "Poem Shop".

No flashy signs or circus acts here - it consisted of a girl sitting on a crate with a vintage sea green typewriter churning out poetry on the spot. It was like an Anthropologie catalog ad.

Unreal sometimes how the simple things can cut through the clutter and make you smile.

an iPhone4 kinda weekend

Its been an iPhone4 kinda weekend since Apple had their Friday press conference to discuss the antenna issues.

With hits on CNN and CBS I'd love to invite you to check out a clip of my thoughts on the Early Show to get my take.

Also, something I've been asked:
What if you don’t want to use a bumper?
Two words duct tape. According to Consumer Reports you can put a pieces of duct tape over the antenna. However, if youre spending a few hundred dollars on the phone dont be ghetto. Take the free bumper or custom make a cool case. Or if you don’t like the site use an invisible wrap that goes all the way around the phone and you can barely see. This will cover the sides as well (where the antenna is).

Jetpacks are here!

In just a few months we will see the first commercial jet pack over 30 years in the making. We discussed this on CNN tonight and I wanted to share a little more information with you.

Technologies like this have been around for a while but have never been perfected. In the past they could only travel 26 seconds in the air and you have to weight 160 lbs or less. Now with the Martin Jet Pack you can travel for up to 30 minutes and weight up to 240 lbs.

MARTIN JET PACK STATS:
*Travel at speeds up to 63mph
*Travel up to 31.5 miles
*Reach a maximum altitude of 8,000 feet in the air
*Uses premium gasoline just like a car – with a fuel capacity of 5 gallons
*In the US the Jetpack qualifies as ultralight vehicle which means you don’t need a license. Training for the first 10 owners will take place in New Zealand.
*Must pass the Martin Aircraft training program. But interestingly enough due to the stability and technologies behind the pack people have gotten up in the air up within two hours.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
You might be wondering who this is made for. Well, this has peaked the interest of a lot of governments around the world are including the Us Dept of Defense specifically in the areas of special forces, Search and Rescue, as well as anti-terrorism.

But really so anyone can buy one for 100,000. Put down a 10% deposit, to ensure a production slot. Delivery for the first customers will be approximately 12 months from order. Progress payments are made during manufacture and final payment on delivery.

For those that find this a pretty steep. Plan to have jetpack experiences around the world for funs.

Coca Cola Freestyle

Coming to a town near you? This is definitely better than hitting up that vending machine in the breakroom with the egg salad sandwiches.

Meet the ultimate in soda customization: the Coca Cola Freestyle. Utilizing a touch screen display the Freesyle has over a hundred different options for you to create your own personalized beverage. And while it includes the reg sodas we know and love as well as waters, teas and juices, it also offers unconventional flavors like Coke Orange.

While its not widespread it is in Atlanta, Dallas, SoCal and Salt Lake City.

Pez for Pets Please

Gahhh! As an avid Pez collector I always think my collection is near complete and then the Pez innovators throw out a new surprise. Meet the Pez Pet Dispenser. Standing at 10" tall, each comes packed with 6 canine treats with refill packs of 12 for purchase. Beagle head or hound head avails - though I cant understand why they didn't go with a classic Snoopy or better yet Scooby Doo with Scooby Snack refills.
Either way this gives me an excuse to buy a Bat Dog.

App Review: Star Walk

Looking up at the stars through technology.

Star Walk is an app worth $4.99. Its basically a planetarium on your iPad. Tilt the iPad up to the sky and identify celestial bodies and constellations, if you move it will move with you tracking your location anywhere in the world. You can also go into the future or past and see where stars were aligned.

Over 88 constellations, 9,000 stars, and 32 meteor showers can be identified. The graphics are amazing and I also love the dimmed red night mode. Plus, as soon as the app starts the sounds and music will transport you.

Its like the 5th grade star lab all over again.

Catch our Sizzling Summer Apps segment on the CBS Early Show this Saturday @ 8am.
