News: Exploding Cell Phone
A Texas man claimed his Droid 2 exploded in his ear. [Story here] We covered this story on The Early Show and I wanted to share the clip.
I want to make it very clear that while events like this are very rare they are possible. You may recall the stories of iPod Nanos and laptop batteries exploding in the past few years.
And while we do not know enough about this situation to determine exactly what happened in this particular incident, my guess is this was a defective product and it points directly to the lithium ion battery. And while every person with a cell phone shouldn't panic it is important to heed the warning signs and educate yourself on what causes this. (see clip)
Companies are more careful than ever these days especially since companies like Dell, Lenovo and Sony have all had tarnished reputations over battery recalls.
