5 Rules of (Geek) Engagement.

Geeks can find love too. And if executed properly can even take the next step to a life-long commitment.  Here are the most interesting approaches to a nerd union.

1.) Find the One.
If the only thing you truly love is your iPhone - one site understands.  MarryYouriPhone.com allows you to tie the knot with your iPhone or iPad.

I received a press release for the site appropriately on April Fools Day.  I'm still trying to figure out if the service is real. Then again, if you think about it, it is fairly practical. I couldn't think of anything or anyone else I'd truly want to spend the rest of my life with as long as its cool to keep upgrading to the next model.

2.) Nailing the Proposal
One man hacked in to Bejeweled and had a ring appear on the screen when his girlfriend hit a certain score. She said yes. When PopCap (makers of the game) found out, they weren't mad -- in fact they paid for the honeymoon and handed out copies of the game at the wedding.

After finding some pics from the wedding (click here for more), it appears they even had a Nintendo DS cake with makeshift you guessed it, Bejeweled game on it.

This other unique approach levels up to new nerd heights. Just watch.

3.) Exchange Vows.
A couple was married in Houston over the weekend by a computer program created by the groom. In other words a couple was married by a robot.

Further explanation - A 30" monitor with a robot voice helped the couple exchange their vows in front of friends and family.

4.) Share Tokens.
Here are some ring faves:
Lego - Diamond is Forever Ring, $250, ShanaLogic.com
This is unique piece in a range of colors created by Jaqueline Sanchez.

Less Than Three Rings, $40-$55, ShanaLogic.com
I like the band one as a guy option!

Binary Wedding Band, $1,175, GreenKarat
Customized with your message of up to 25 characters.  Another great "for him" option.

Or.... you can really kick it up a notch by going the custom one-of-a-kind route like Luke Jerram did teaming up with local jeweler Tamrakar.  He has created a projection ring by "hacking apart disposable cameras to find the right lens".  He then used family portraits to embed inside and noted as his family grows pictures are able to be added.  He also created a talking ring for his wife that has his proposal recorded and can be replayed over and over again.

5.) Let Them Eat Cake!
Yes, the Super Mario cake has been done--- but it just keep getting better.  Thanks to WeddingDressesandCakes for compiling quite the variety.  Click here to see the entire list.

Here are some of my faves:

This particular cake was uploaded on flickr by M.A.L.  Note the amazing details especially Toad Mario Kart. "I'mmm the best!!!"

This gem was made by Francis Clayton (including side cakes) and was posted on CakeWrecks.com.

  4. Haha! This is awesome. Almost convinced my wife to let me wear a LotR tungsten ring as a wedding band. (http://ring-ninja.com/tulori.html) That didn't work out so I had mine made out of damascus steel instead (there are samurai swords made of this metal).
