Get your
application ready, because you could be one of the early testers of the world’s
first truly smart glasses, brought to you by Google Glass. Here is the breakdown on
all things Google Glass as chatted about on CNN today.
In short, we are getting
closer to a Jetsons’ era. This is yet another advancement in wearable
technology.
We first officially heard
about rumored Project Glass in April of last year, and yesterday Google released
even more on the functionality with new videos and photos. The glasses are
basically augmented reality glasses, but if you look closely, there are no lenses
in them, just a little near-eye micro display and camera.

Is anyone
really going to wear them?
First, let’s remember how much people complain about 3D glasses—and
those aren’t designed to be worn in public. Still, Google Glass is an entirely
different playing field.
There is much talk of Google partnering with Warby Parker, which
is a hip glasses startup. However, I can’t confirm this. Google declined to
comment on this when I spoke with representatives today.
I also am going to continue asking them if Glass will come in
prescription. They said they are always experimenting.
So how do we
apply to be an early tester?
A few thousand lucky individuals will get to enter the early
explorer tester program – here are the basic guidelines:
Using Google+ or Twitter you have to tell Google what you would
do if you had Glass and submit your application on Google+ or Twitter.
- Application must be 50
words or less
- Must include #ifihadglass
in application
- You can include up to five
photos with your application
- You can include a short
video (15 secs max)
- Follow them on Google+ (+ProjectGlass)
or Twitter (@projectglass) so that they can contact you
directly (Worth noting in 24 hours the Twitter account has over 42k followers)
- Be at least 18 years old
and live in the U.S. to apply
- Deadline February 27
- Cost: $1,500 + tax
- Pickup in NYC, SF or LA
Stay tuned – I definitely
cannot wait to give a test spin and hopefully one day add to my glasses collection.
